Greek mythology gets a reboot with Rick Riordan’s best selling series Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief blitzing theaters during the February 12th. It’s the 21st century and the Greek Gods have moved to New York City. Zeus’ lightning bolt has been stolen, and Percy is the prime suspect.
The film is directed by famed Harry Potter director, Christopher Columbus, and has star power with Pierce Brosnan playing the wise old centaur Chiron, and Uma Thurman as an unlikely Medusa. The Percy Jackson series has five best selling titles and 21st Century Fox is hoping the Percy Jackson series catches on as well as the Harry Potter franchise which has made over $5.4 billion worldwide.
Another big budget toga wearing reboot slashes into theaters March 26th. Clash of the Titans follows Perseus (Sam Worthington) as he embarks on a perilous journey to stop the underworld and its minions from spreading their evil to Earth and Mount Olympus.
Director Louis Leterrier is no stranger to larger than life reboots after successfully directing the reboot of “The Incredible Hulk” in 2008.
With Clash of the Titans release imminent, Leterrier is setting his sights on directing The Avengers move slated to be released May 4th 2012.
“What I love about Avengers is the collision of human conflict on superhuman levels. I love analyzing what it means to be a superhero.”
