Frostlings: A New Adventure from a Familiar Face

Frostlings: A New Adventure from a Familiar Face

Some folks may already know the work of Patrick Block and his wife Shelley. The pair have been creating Disney comics for nearly a quarter of a century. (They are also really nice people.) Patrick and Shelley’s work has typically focused on Donald Duck and Uncle Scrooge. While at Wizard World Ohio, this past weekend, I was able to talk with the twosome, who are working on an all new original venture together.

The project is called Frostlings and is an epic quest-style adventure featuring some amazing characters. The graphic novel was started as a Kickstarter project, which reached is funding goal over the past summer. The main characters, a group of unlikely (yet adorable) heroes quest through a hand-watercolored landscape as they explore their little snowball of a planet. Each aspect, from the plants and animals, to the modes of transportation, seems to have been carefully considered. In this way, the Blocks have created a fantastical landscape.

The questing starts small, with the star heroine, Flats, trying to recover some stolen knitting. but the story grows and expands in its own unique way. Judging by some of the early pagework the Blocks have completed, the story will be something like Tolkien and Dr. Seuss working together. The Blocks have a great history in the business, and are surely bringing all that experience to bear on this project. The end result is heavily anticipated.
