National Film Board of Canada (NFB) production Act of Dishonour has its theatrical premiere this Friday in Toronto. The premiere, which was delayed due to the G20 conference, will be shown at the AMC Yonge and Dundas. The film, a drama, concerns honour killings and a bride-to-be in Afghanistan as she is visited by a Canadian film crew. The film is directed by Nelofer Pazira, who grew up in Kabul and moved to New Brunswick in 1990. Pazira is also the star of Kandahar, and highly lauded film by Mohsen Makhmalbaf, and is the co-director of a documentary called Return to Kandahar. Moviegoers bored with remakes, sequels, misfires, and SNL might want to consider Act of Dishonour.
