Of all the TV shows considered “cinematic”, perhaps none earns that title more so than HBO’s Game of Thrones. So it seems fitting that of all shows, it would be the first to make its way to the big screen.
The final two episodes of Season Four of Game of Thrones will be screened on 150 IMAX screens across the country starting January 23 to 29, according to the New York Times. Along with the two episodes, attendees will get the chance to see the trailer for the fifth season of the show, which begins on HBO in April.
The New York Times points out that this is the first television show to get this sort of treatment, and that it reflects a broader shift in mediums and how people consume movies and TV going forward. They additionally note that January is an ideal time as Hollywood enters a dumping phase for movies.
Tickets will go on sale “in the coming days”.
