What are those mad geniuses at Netflix up to? First they revive Arrested Development to more hype than the actual reunion actually deserved, and now they’ve got yet another cult project cooking with just about the greatest reunion cast ever assembled: the original cast of David Wain’s Wet Hot American Summer.
Deadline is reporting that Wain’s cult film is being revived for an 8-episode limited series run on Netflix, currently filming now and featuring nearly the entire original cast. For those curious about that cast, here’s all who is involved, according to Deadline:
Elizabeth Banks, H. Jon Benjamin, Michael Ian Black, Bradley Cooper, Judah Friedlander, Janeane Garofalo, Nina Hellman, Ken Marino, Zak Orth, David Hyde Pierce, Joe LoTruglio, Christopher Meloni, A.D. Miles, Marguerite Moreau, Amy Poehler, Paul Rudd, Marisa Ryan, Molly Shannon, Michael Showalter and Kevin Sussman.
Let that list sink in for a moment.
The series will be based on Wain’s 2001 film about the last day of a summer camp, and Wain will reprise directing duties along with himself and Showalter executive producing.
The film was a box office and critical dud upon release but has since achieved cult status. Surely this has not escaped the notice of Netflix, who will likely push this through the roof considering the cast they now have under their roof.
