The Decalogue

It seems more and more apparent that television can’t think of anything new. They just keep digging into films and remakes for new shows. Oh, wait. That may be everyone.

Deadline reported on Tuesday that the late Polish filmmaker Krzysztof Kieslowski’s limited series, The Decalogue is set to get the remake treatment at NBC. The 1989 original Dekalog, which Kieslowski co-wrote with his writing partner Kyzysztof Piesiewicz, was set in Poland and consisted of 10 one-hour films, each inspired by one of the Ten Commandments and each directed by Kieslowski.

The updated version will be set in Boston and will similarly explore the moral and ethical issues that are central to the Ten Commandments. It is being written by Todd Ellis Kessler (The Good Wife).

The Good Wife has produced award-worthy television so that brings hope for this remake, but it will be interesting to see how far NBC will go with taking risks with the subject matter.
