One of the biggest surprises from Nintendo’s E3 Direct was the announcement of a new Zelda game for the 3DS titled The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes. An online co-op game where three Links team up to solve dungeon puzzles and beat bosses, the trailer showcased how players work together to reach new heights by climbing on each other’s shoulders like a totem, or toss items like giant bombs around a room to take out obstacles. Various communication icons will be found on the 3DS’ lower screen, such as a prompt to “throw” something or a “get over here!” command that can clue others in. Players with no friends or internet will not be left out in the cold, however, as a single-player mode will have the two other Links in your party AI controlled, and will allow the player to switch back and forth between all of them to navigate all the deviousness.

Fashion will also come into play, with a number of different outfits that all have different effects and abilities, such as one hideous ensemble that seemed to increase luck in dodging attacks. The visuals are in the vein of the outstanding Link Between Worlds, though whether you will be able to turn into a Link paintng is still unclear.

With a shared group of health hearts, expect both hilarity and outrage from your team’s Hyrule questing when The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes releases for 3DS this fall.
