While Netflix has gained a reputation over the years for its original programming, which includes BoJack Horseman and Orange is the New Black, the streaming service has often also added shows from other channels to its own fold, rescuing them from cancellation or other budgetary concerns. While the most high-profile acquisition and resurrection to date has been that of the comedy Arrested Development, both The Killing and Longmire can be counted in the latter group as well. Now a new series has been added to the mix, as news has emerged that the UK science fiction series Black Mirror will be the newest Netflix exclusive series.
Created by Charlie Brooker, the show ran its first two seasons, as well as a Christmas Special, on Channel 4 in the UK, totalling seven episodes to date. The story states that Brooker and Netflix have reached the arrangement for an unspecified number of episodes, though it will definitely be more than one. Brooker himself is currently in the midst of penning new episodes, continuing the trend established in the show’s first two seasons. Channel 4, however, continues to be in the mix, and may have a first look deal as part of the Netflix arrangement.
All existing episodes of Black Mirror , whose casts have included Toby Kebbell, Hayley Atwell, Domhnall Gleeson, and Jon Hamm, are currently streaming on US Netflix. A premiere date for the new episodes have yet to be announced.
