It is impossible to ignore the universal praise Super Mario Maker has received so far. In my review of the game, I said that Super Mario Maker is just the start of something greater. I figured Nintendo would roll out sequels in the future and I was assuming they would tie it into other franchise such as Super Smash Bros. for example, but I didn’t think it would happen so soon.
Nintendo has just announced that Super Smash Bros. for Wii U & 3DS will be receiving a stage modeled after the new level designer. Like Super Mario Maker, the new stage for Super Smash Bros. will draw upon elements from the original Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World and New Super Mario Bros. but it’s not entirely clear what this all means. Will players be able to upload their own levels or will Nintendo incorporate some sort of better level design in Smash? Or perhaps they will release an assortment of pre-made level designs that will randomly appear when the stage is selected? The trailer leaves a lot of questions left unanswered, but it does have me excited. Be sure to listen to the next episode of our Nintendo podcast as I am sure we will all have plenty to say about this and more.
The Super Mario Maker stage for Super Smash Bros. will be available on 30th September in the West. There hasn’t been any mention of how much it will cost yet. Watch the trailer below.
