The Coveted Role of Lisbeth Salander in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo has been Officially Cast

The coveted role of Lisbeth Salander in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo has been officially cast to actress Rooney Mara.

The upcoming film being directed by David Fincher, is a remake of the original Swedish adaptation of the book by the same name, written by the late Stieg Larsson.

Mara is an actress who’s only in the last few year arrived in Hollywood, starring in the Nightmare on Elm Street remake and Youth in Revolt, as well as being cast in The Social Network (also directed by David Fincher). While I feel I should trust David Fincher‘s decision to pick this particular actress over the likes of many more seasoned ones who have fought for the role (Including Ellen Page, Carey Mulligan and Scarlett Johansson) I can’t help but worry whether such a new player will be able to handle such a darkened role as this one.

I just recently watched the movie’s Swedish original and I can see why the role itself was so sought-after to begin with, as well as why it is such a special role that needs to be played by the right person.

We will have to see more before any decisions can be made yet anyways.

Rooney Mara will be joining Daniel Craig (Quantum of Solace, Casino Royale) who has been cast in the role of Mikael Blomkvist.

The film is set to release world wide December 21st, 2011.
