According to Pitchfork magazine, Dan Deacon is scoring legendary director Francis Ford Coppola’s next film, Twixt Now and Sunrise. With his last film Tetro, Coppola returned to his independent roots, and the result was a deeply personal picture, overflowing with exuberance and passion – and the director’s best work in over twenty years. Perhaps his daughter’s filmmaking has rubbed off on him because the director (now 71 years old) is working on a gothic horror story with American electronic musician/wizard Dan Deacon. How cool is that?
Dan Deacon is famed for his live shows. When playing solo, he performs on floor level within the audience, his musical devices being set up on a low table, and surrounded by the crowd. Many regard his for assembling some of the best live shows and his albums have appeared on various top 10 lists.
Twixt Now and Sunrise will come out later this year and stars Val Kilmer and Bruce Dern. According to a press release, Deacon and Coppola are also “collaborating on a larger level, details of which will be announced soon.”
A while back Deacon recorded the track “Drinking out of Cups”, and in 2006, Liam Lynch created a video to accompany the piece which became an internet sensation. As the video spread, rumours of what the video was and how it was made quickly began forming. One popular rumour is that it is a recording of someone on LSD locked in a closet.
