Dread Central has recently reported that director Danny Boyle, is planning to return to direct the third installment in the 28 Days Later franchise.
According to what Danny Boyle has said in the past, 28 Months Later isn’t the official title for the film, but it is supposedly planned to take place in Russia.
Dread Central reports the news, which has purportedly come from Boyle himself. When asked if he’d be producing the sequel, he replied, “Actually, I want to direct it.” The conversation stems from a third party source, so nothing is yet confirmed.
Personally I don’t think it will happen and honestly I would rather see the director take on other projects that aren’t remakes nor sequels. Boyle’s next “confirmed” project is to be a London stage play of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, but following that, Boyle still has a three-year production deal with Fox Searchlight and Pathe Pictures. So far only 127 Hours is the only film produced under that contract.
If this rumor turns out to be true, it’s more than likely it will be his next project before setting out to shoot Frankenstein. Only time will tell.
