From Dr. Manhattan to Batman and Superman: Three of the Best DC Films

From humble beginnings as comic book characters, both Batman and Superman have emerged as globally recognisable icons. Whether they appear on the silver screen or as virtual slot icons on mobile websites such as au.royalvegascasino.com, they now front lucrative franchises that generate billions of dollars on an annual basis. These franchises will both gain a new layer in 2016, as DC get set to release the highly anticipated and potentially record-breaking movie Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

While the true nature and content of this film has yet to be fully understood, we can expect a riotous big screen adventure that incorporates spectacular special effects. What has yet to be determined is where the film will ultimately sit among the pantheon of great DC movies, so let’s consider the competition and the following rival titles: –

Batman

The Dark Knight (2008)

The Dark Knight is the most successful Batman-inspired film to date. Directed by Christopher Nolan, it narrates the tale of how the Joker wreaks havoc on the people of Gotham using a series of creative and psychologically cruel methods. Batman must therefore summon all of his inner strength as he faces the greatest challenge yet to his penchant for fighting injustice.

Watchmen

Watchmen (2009)

Another DC classic was released just one year later, with Watchmen, arguably the single most creative and innovative title that they studio has released to date. Set in an alternative 1985 where superheroes exist, the murder of an esteemed colleague sends the proactive vigilante Rorschach into his own independent investigation for truth and justice. He subsequently uncovers something that has the potential to change the course of history forever, in a story chock full of suspense, twists and edge-of-the-seat turns.

GreenLantern

Green Lantern (2011)

In 2011, DC studios really pushed the envelope with Green Lantern. Focusing on a test pilot Hal Jordan, the story charts his journey from an inexperienced novice to a central part of the intergalactic police force. After being granted an alien ring that bestows him with purposeful and otherworldly powers, he joins the respected Green Lantern Corps and the ongoing fight against evil. Directed by Martin Campbell and packed full of action, this roller-coaster of a film delivers thrills in abundance.
