Following rumors from back in August, Sony Pictures knows exactly who it’s gonna call for a Ghostbusters sequel: Bridesmaids Director Paul Feig.
Feig initially suggested that Ghostbusters 3 would be in the works with a female-led cast, and now he’s confirmed via Twitter that he will be directing the film along with his writer on The Heat Katie Dippold penning the screenplay. Dan Aykroyd and the original’s director Ivan Reitman will be on hand as producers.
Ghostbusters 3 has been a conversation topic for years, with hopes that Bill Murray would finally reprise his role as Peter Venkman and a script being in various states of completion. All of that died down slightly with the passing of Harold Ramis back in February, but the success of films like The Heat, The Fault in Our Stars, Lucy, Maleficent and several other female-led blockbusters has rekindled that excitement as a no-brainer reboot. In fact, we came up with a list of female-fronted reboots and sequels we’d like to see.
While no cast has been confirmed and likely won’t be until long after the script is completed, Bill Murray has expressed a wish list that included Melissa McCarthy, Kirsten Wiig, Emma Stone and Linda Cardellini.
Feig has just recently wrapped production on Spy, a comedy starring Rose Byrne, Jason Statham, Melissa McCarthy and Jude Law, which is shooting for a May 22, 2015 release.
What do you think of a third Ghostbusters film? Which women should get the job?
