Hulu picks up Billy Eichner’s ‘Difficult People’

I have a medical condition called caring too much about TV. Amy Poehler’s sitcom Difficult People just got a straight-to-series order from Hulu. Originally USA produced the pilot, but then the network decided to move away from developing comedies. USA’s loss is Hulu‘s gain. The comedy stars Billy Eichner and Julie Klausner, who have worked together in the Emmy-nominated Billy on the Street.

According to Beatrice Springborn, head of Hulu Originals, the series “follows Billy Eichner and Julie Klausner as best friends and struggling comedians in New York City who can’t figure out why they aren’t likeable.  Klausner wrote the pilot and will also serve as an executive producer for the series alongside Amy Poehler (Parks and Recreation) and Dave Becky (Louie).”

Production will start early next year. Perhaps they will run down the streets screaming about Meryl Streep.

While on the USA comedy front: Still no word if Playing House is canceled or renewed.
