It’s the End of the World Again: Fox Buys Apocalyptic Pitch

2012-Movie-02

With 2012 fast approaching I anticipated a surge in the apocalypse genre, but so far all I’ve really heard about is the obviously titled movie 2012 and, the one I’m most looking forward to, The Road.  However, this week The Hollywood Reporter reported that Fox has some plans for the end of the world too.

A writing duo composed of Jeremy Passmore and Andre Fabrizio pitched an idea about “a group of people who survive the end of the world and the mystery surrounding how they got to that position,” and Fox picked it up.  Now they are courting Live Free or Die Hard director Len Wiseman to produce and direct the project.

Len Wiseman knows his way around moody atmospheres and speculative worlds and histories, having worked on two of the Underworld pictures. His name is still mentioned in conjunction with the films Shrapnel, Atlantis Rising, and Gears of War, all listed as in development by IMDB.  Lately, however, his projects have had a tough time getting off the ground.  At one point, Wiseman had plans to direct a remake of Escape from New York, but that project is apparently dead in the water.  Maybe the end of the world is just the break Wiseman has been looking for.
