James McAvoy Mentors The X-Men?

Matthew Vaughn’s X-Men: First Class is approaching ever so quickly and they have found their Professor X. The guys at /Film have word that James McAvoy (Atonement and Wanted) has been casted for the role as Professor Charles Xavier to mentor the first generation of X-Men. McAvoy is a decent actor, but I can’t see him fitting the role of Professor X. The profile of McAvoy just doesn’t seem to fit the very wise and educated character that Charles Xavier displays. Age also seems to be a factor that troubles me as well. Are the X-Men going to be 10 years old? James McAvoy is only 31 and the age difference between Professor X and the X-Men seems to be quite a significant difference, so how will this effect the story? My one theory could be that they could choose to use the age morphing technology that they used in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button to make McAvoy look a little older.

We’ll just have to wait and see how this turn of events work out when filming begins.

Official Plot Synopsis:

X-MEN: FIRST CLASS, following the classic Marvel mythology, charts the epic beginning of the X-Men saga.  Before Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Before they were archenemies, they were closest of friends, working together, with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to stop the greatest threat the world has ever known. In the process, a rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto’s Brotherhood and Professor X’s X-Men.
