Recently Joss Whedon told The Sunday Herald-Sun a little about his plans for the upcoming Marvel superhero film, The Avengers. He didn’t reveal anything new, but he did mention that in addition to Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow, there will be other female characters in the movie. Rumors are circulating about the possibility of Gwyneth Paltrow reprising her role as “Pepper Potts” from the Iron Man films. Others believe that the character of Betty Ross might play some sort of role in the movie.
“It is true that the movie is only going to have one female avenger”, Whedon said of Johansson’s part. “But she will not be the only female character”. As for the storyline of the film, Whedon will only say “It will be a new story that has many things from different arcs of the comics in it. There is no one Avengers story that you can just do the way that you can do the origin of Spider-Man. You really have to cull from the original and The Ultimates, which is one of The Avengers titles.”
