‘Spider-Man’ producer Laura Ziskin dies at 61

It’s a sad day for Hollywood as we learned that influential producer Laura Ziskin has died today at the age of 61, finally succumbing to her long and public battle with breast cancer.  Ziskin produced the Spider-Man movies as well as also serving as an executive producer on As Good As it Gets and Pretty Woman.  She also served as a producer on the Academy Awards for several years.  Ziskin also produced the new Spider-Man reboot The Amazing Spider-Man, set to come out in the spring of next year.  She still has a ton of credits that are currently in pre-production listed on her IMDb entry.

Besides being an A-list producer, she was also a major activist, most notably on behalf of Stand Up to Cancer in 2008.  She also executive produced a star studded television event for the charity that was simulcast over three major networks on September 5, 2008.  Another special aired in September of 2010.  She leaves behind her husband Alvin Sargent, a two-time Academy Award winning screenwriter.
