We know by now that Henry Cavill has filled the boots of the titular Man of Steel and Amy Adams as Lois Lane shouldn’t disappoint many. His biological and adopted family has been cast and all that was left was the rest of the intrepid reporting team of the Daily Planet.
Now that’s one step closer to being rounded out in a surprising casting decision. EW reports that Laurence Fishburne, fresh from his two and a half year sojourn into television on CSI, has been cast as the Daily Planet’s editor-in-chief Perry White. As audiences may recall, the character has been traditionally Caucasian, being played last on the big screen by Frank Langella in Superman Returns. Even as this may be a slight revision in the comics canon, it should be a welcome change as the role should be in good in the Oscar and Emmy-nominated actor’s hands. Although should this give pause to other fans who may consider if the filmmakers of Man of Steel can change Perry White, what else do they plan on sacrificing in the Superman canon in the name of a reboot? It definitely will be interesting to see what the reception will be for Fishburne’s take on Perry White.
Now all that remains in the main cast is the role of Jimmy Olsen to be filled. That should be soon as production begins this fall for a June 13, 2013.release. The film also stars Kevin Costner, Michael Shannon (Revolutionary Road), Diane Lane (Secretariat, Unfaithful), Russell Crowe and Juila Ormond (Temple Grandin, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button). Zach Snyder (Sucker Punch, 300) will be directing a script by David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight, Batman Begins).
