Following DC’s media firestorm a few weeks back in which their entire superhero movie slate was announced up through 2020, though there was a lot to chew on, there were a few holes. The most notable was the absence of a director for the Wonder Woman movie starring Gal Gadot.
And after a few more weeks of speculation and Lexi Alexander saying she wasn’t interested, Michelle MacLaren, the Emmy winning director behind many white knuckle episodes of Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead, has officially signed on to direct Wonder Woman.
THR reported the news Monday with details that Charles Roven, Zack Snyder and Deborah Snyder are all attached as producers as the film aims for a June 23, 2017 release date.
MacLaren is a great choice whether or not she’s a woman, but with so few tentpole projects such as this actually going into the hands of female directors, its best to take some wins when they’re given. Hopefully this is the first of many, because hey, I’m still waiting for a Kathryn Bigelow movie about Captain America killing Osama bin Laden or something.
