Are you still rubbed the wrong way by the winners of this year’s Oscars? Wish that if they have 10 nominations, they should realistically use them to nominate cool movies everyone has seen like Guardians of the Galaxy and The Fault in Our Stars, and if you’re not going to, why not just go back to 5?
That’s what the MTV Movie Awards are for, and surprisingly, they’ve made some choices that are making them look even more diverse and in touch with society than the Academy.
The movie of the year nominations are a healthy mix of blockbusters and critical darlings, with Oscar winner Birdman nowhere to be found (except for Best Female Performance by Emma Stone and Best Fight, between Michael Keaton and Edward Norton).
But even some of these fluffy, fun categories saw fit to nominate David Oyelowo, Chris Rock, Kevin Hart (okay, pretty sure The Wedding Ringer came out in January), and Zoe Saldana. Eddie Redmayne missed out on Best Male Performance, but got nominated for “Best On-Screen Transformation”, a category the Oscars call “Best Actor.” And hey, Kate Upton gets to hang out (whoops) with the boys in the Best Shirtless performance, which also featured Ansel Elgort, Channing Tatum, Zac Efron and Chris Pratt.
The MTV Movie Awards will air on April 12 and be hosted by Amy Schumer. See the full list of nominees below:
