Today we’ve gotten the first official plot details on Joss Whedon’s highly anticipated Marvel sequel Avengers: Age of Ultron. There isn’t much information in the plot summery that most people couldn’t surmise from the titular villain or other casting announcements, but at least it’s now official. The Avengers in 2012 ended up being one of the best blockbusters in years upon its release and became the third highest grossing film of all time, so it is probably safe to assume that the sequel could be even better and be a strong contender for biggest movie off all time when it kicks off summer next year, given the immense talent behind the film.
Ultron has been one of the biggest threats in Marvel comics since his creation in 1968 and given that James Spader is pretty incredible in just about everything he is in, the human hating robot has the potential to be Marvel Studios’ best villains yet. Besides Spader, the first film already established the team, so now the sequel can delve right into the meat of the story. Whedon has stated on several occasions that one of his biggest goals when writing and directing the film was to make it different from the original. So with all that, so far all signs point that Marvel Studios has another winner on their hands.
