Rutger Hauer Teams Up With Dario Argento

Rutger Hauer has reportedly been cast as Van Helsing in Dario Argento’s upcoming Dracula 3D. As much as I like the actor, I am not sure if this is good news. It’s been years since Dario Argento made a film worth watching. In fact his last two movies, Giallo and Mother of Tears both made my list of “ten worst films” made in their respective years. As for Hauer, the 67 year-old has worked steadily for the last few years in high-profile films such as Sin City, Batman Begins and recently starred in the lead role of Jason Eisner’s Hobo With a Shotgun (read the raving review from Sundance). The blonde, blue-eyed, tall, Dutch actor has an international reputation for playing everything from romantic leads to action heroes to sinister villains. He made his first big impression in Hollywood when cast as a psychopathic terrorist opposite Sylvester Stallone in Nighthawks (1981). However his his next major American appearance is what he is most famous for – that of Roy Batty, one of the rebellious Nexus 6 replicants in Blade Runner (1982).
