Ryan Gosling to star in adaptation of Logan’s Run

The Hollywood Reporter has scoop that Ryan Gosling signed a deal last week to star in Warner Bros’  adaptation of Logan’s

Run. Run is based on the 1967 sci-fi novel by William F. Nolan set in “a future society where people are executed upon reaching a certain age and those that seek to avoid their fate are deemed Runners” and “Logan is one of those executioners, known as the Sandmen, who ends up on the run after he becomes sympathetic with members of an underground railroad of Runners.” The assumption here is that Gosling will take on the title role of Logan.

It is a surprising choice for Gosling as he has mostly made a name for himself in quiet independent features in recent years such as this year’s Blue Valentine and 2007’s Lars and the Real Girl. This will be one of the rare times for Gosling to take on a possible big budget actioner like Logan’s Run with a major studio behind it. The film, who once had Bryan Singer (X-Men, X2, Superman Returns) attached, has now got Danish director Nicolas Winding Refn (Bronson) on board, who incidentally just wrapped up action thriller Drive also starring Ryan Gosling. Joel Silver and Akiva Goldsman are producers on a script by Alex Garland (28 Days Later, Never Let Me Go).
