While by no means bad, “They All Asked For You” feels exactly like an episode in statis; nothing of real significance happens, aside from some character bonding and set-up for future episodes (particularly with Rebekah and Freya).
The season finale of The Vampire Diaries sees the group work frantically to open the portal to the Other Side in light of Stefan’s death, in a strong finish that potentially permanently alters the makeup of the show.
Between “Le Grand Guignol” and last week’s episode, The Originals is dialing back on the large-scale drama and focusing instead on the show’s namesake–a storytelling move that’s proving to be an excellent decision.
With The Vampire Diaries/The Originals vets Michael Narducci and Chris Grismer, along with Head Honcho Julie Plec, helming “Crescent City,” it’s no surprise at all that the episode is so well-done and excellent. So much happens, it’s hard to pinpoint everything that makes it great.
As Katherine stands at death’s door, the characters come to terms with how they feel about her, amidst the unexpected return of a few characters.
Damon’s time with the Augustine society is further explored, revealing both sympathetic and unsympathetic shades to his character.
