“Loving” by Jeff Nichols: Gorgeous, Wistful Drama on Slavery Leftovers is the Most Mainstream Palme Contender Yet

It’s hard not to like Jeff Nichols’ latest drama “Loving”, a biopic of real-life couple Richard and Mildred Loving, who in the late 1950’s were expelled from the state of Virginia for contracting an interracial marriage in Washington DC. Its politically correct (and topical) subject matter, beautiful cinematography and charismatic lead characters make this the …

‘The Rover’ reinforces David Michod’s powerful filmmaking abilities.

A dystopian future is a solid foundation of any interesting film. Bleak surroundings and despicable characters comprise these future worlds and their stories explore the very raw and basic instincts of man. Australian export The Rover is no exception and the results are pretty solid. The talented Guy Pearce turns in an intense, fully believable performance here and Robert Pattinson isn’t half bad in an unconventional role.

How Smokin’ Aces attempted to subvert action movies…and failed

In early 2006, there was released a superb teaser trailer for what looked like a chaotic, testosterone fuelled action film of insane sensibility. Fitzgerald had such a disdain for his time that there isn’t a single character in The Great Gatsby that you are supposed to like. However, as author John Green said …
