‘Quantum Break’ spends time wisely

A Wake to a Time Break Remedy games have a reputation of providing great action, striking styles and engrossing narratives. For the third time Remedy have delivered on these core strengths even if the overall package is shakier than Alan Wake after drinking from the 100th coffee thermos. While Max Payne took on a noir …

‘Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime’ is a delightful (space) time

Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime Developed by Asteroid Base Published by Asteroid Base Available on Xbox One, Microsoft Windows I’m a sucker for a cooperative game, but too few truly demand cooperation.  While it is always fun to play alongside a friend or loved one, it is rare to find a game where coordination, synchronization, …

Who’s Really Winning the Console Wars?

As regular listeners to our gaming podcast Open Source will attest, the ongoing rivalry between Sony and Microsoft is oft-discussed. John perhaps said it best in last week’s episode – competition is good for the industry; without it, companies become complacent and lazy, and innovation dries up. As consumers, there’s nothing worse than one side …

E3 2015 Hands-On: ‘Cuphead’

Cuphead was the Xbox One’s most creative and artistically ambitious title presented at E3 and its presence on the showfloor helped solidify its place as one of Microsoft’s mainstays. Cuphead’s most drawing feature is its art style. Based on 1930s era American cartoons, Cuphead replicates these old animations almost effortlessly.  The developers, Chad & Jared …

The Nintendo Wii U is without question, the underdog of the console market, even if it is the best console on store shelves right now. ‘Halo 5: Guardians’ to return franchise to its competitive roots

Alongside Halos 1 through 4 in the upcoming Master Chief Collection, fans will also have access to the Halo 5: Guardians multiplayer beta, starting December 27 and ending January 22, 2015. Not much else is known, but it will go beyond server stress tests unlike most modern betas, analyzing and incorporating user feedback to create a more balanced, refined experience. This makes sense considering the beta begins almost one year before Guardians is expected to ship in the winter of 2015.

Videogames: A Matter of Life and Death

Last week I read an article where George Lucas and Steven Spielberg gave their predictions of where videogames will be within the next five years, give or take. Spielberg believes videogames will not be completely immersive until they are a three-dimensional experience. Microsoft is allegedly working on that. Lucas thinks videogames will soon be revolutionised …

Xbox One and the Next 360

When Microsoft announced the Xbox One they dropped the huge bombshell that the physical packaged games would be registered to only one Xbox One console/account.
