“Two Trains” ranks with “Elam Ferguson” as one of the season’s best episodes. It is a quickly paced, violent, down and dirty episode full of great moments, exceptionally clever directing, and excellent performances. This is the Hell on Wheels viewers have come to expect and love.
Last week’s episode of Hell on Wheels, “Reckoning”, was a slow and disappointing entry. There were great moments but given how exceptional the first three episodes of the season were, “Reckoning” left much to be desired. “Life’s a Mystery” is better but it’s also very heavy-handed and uneven.
The first three episodes of this season have been an exceptional continuation of last season, the series best group of episodes, but “Reckoning” is missing something.
