DC Comics Characters That Should Have Their Own TV Show

CW’s Arrow has shown that DC Comics characters can work on the small screen. This season has gotten positive attention from both fans and critics and continues to build its world and introduce more characters and concepts from the comics. As well as Arrow, DC Entertainment has announced that there are Jim Gordon, John Constantine, and Hourman shows …

Ray Donovan, Ep 1.07 “New Birthday” pushes its lead character in the right direction

It may have taken seven episodes to get us there, but Ray Donovan finally convinced its lead character to do something interesting. Watching Ray put himself repeatedly in harm’s way (to the absolute bafflement of those he’s trying to get through) almost approaches the level of charming. Especially with the overall, off-kilter weirdness of Sully’s Boston surroundings.

Ray Donovan, Ep 1.05 “The Golem” is a dreary, predictable mess

Ray Donovan, Season 1, Episode 5: “The Golem” Written by: Sean Conway Directed by: Dan Attias Airs Sundays at 10 PM (ET) on Showtime This week’s Ray Donovan is dark, dismal and ultimately useless. For the past four episodes, the show has been two completely separate entities, but as the season creeps towards its eventual …

Ray Donovan, Ep 1.04 “Black Cadillac” achieves depth during a downward spiral

Four episodes into Ray Donovan and already a regular viewing pattern emerges. When Ray appears onscreen, the natural reaction is to tense up. These are the moments when the show is at its bleakest; when it truly tries to be a crime drama and not some mishmash of family interludes and semi-comedic relationships that might actually be intended for comedic effect.

Status at the Half (TV), Part 1: Top 10 TV Series of 2013 (So Far)

2013 is only halfway done, but there’s a fair chance that, in a television context, it might well be looked back upon as the year any and all accepted rules of “quality television” became utterly meaningless and the promise of great things arrived in all shapes and sizes, from all directions. Consider Netflix’s House of …

Second Language: A decade of pop music on TV

The third track on one of my favorite rock records of the last decade, Okkervil River’s The Stage Names, is called “A Hand to Take Hold of the Scene.” Without context, its lyric is a bit of a tough nut to crack. Will Sheff sings about events unfolding on a TV screen in the first verse, recaps …

Suburgatory, Ep 2.21 “Apocalypse Meow” & 2.22 “Stray Dogs”

As far as season finale’s go, tonight’s special one hour episode of Suburgatory was pretty top notch, as the show didn’t pull any punches on its way out. Suburgatory, Ep 2.19 “Decemberfold”

Tonight’s episode of Suburgatory was one of the weirdest detours for the series, but none the less funny. It was fun seeing characters like Dalia and George have to deal with situations we’d never seen them in. The main plot of the episode centered around the “Dad’s of Chatswin” calendar shoot for the Mother’s Against the Defamation of Undiluted Apple Juice. Naturally, all of the dads become super competitive and begin angling for the coveted Decemberfold slot.
