5) Young Galaxy “Fall For You”
Directed by Nic Hamilton
Kicking off this week’s ‘5 Best Music Videos Of The Week’ is the latest from Canadian indie/dream pop band Young Galaxy. For a band thats sound is pleasant and straightforward synth pop, they sure do produce weird videos. There’s “Pretty Boy“, a video depicting a love story between two people in unbelievably creepy masks and now their new all-CGI clip for the catchy “Fall For You”. The video shows what can only be described as strange, science experiments where music makes waveforms ripple and faces appear.
4) Books Of Love “Space Time”
Books Of Love is a pleasant little duo comprised of Vivian Girls/Le Sera’s insanely cool Katy Goodman and Greta Morgan of the Hush Sound. The union was conceived when the pair walked past the Griffith Conservatory in Los Angeles and wanted to write a song about finding love in another dimension. “Space Time” is a song about physics and love, science and romance, space and time. The YouTube description for the video is pretty interesting: “Have you ever felt the lovesick pain of falling for someone from a different dimension? They have too.” It’s a delightful video featuring both Goodman and Morgan searching for a green man to love.
3) Le1f “Spa Day”
Directed by Jesse Miller-Gordon
Despite the song’s title, the latest from Le1f is pretty aggressive. Bouncing from bathtub to hot tub and maliciously rapping, the imagery just emphasises that it’s not a pleasant track about relaxing. There’s something intoxicating about the track and the video is like nothing I’ve ever seen before. I can’t help but think of Lafayette from HBO’s True Blood.
2) Queens Of The Stone Age “My God Is The Sun”
In anticipating of their album album Like Clockwork, Queens Of The Stone Age have been producing a bunch of bloodily animated videos and this week they released the fifth. In “My God Is The Sun”, the dead stars from the videos “I Appear Missing“, “Kalopsia“, “Keep Your Eyes Peeled“, and “If I Had A Tail” all reawaken. Though the songs haven’t been all that, the videos are pretty awesome. They remind me of a darker and more metal version of Gorillaz.
1) CSS “Hangover”
Another great video from CSS was released this week. There’s not much to say but it was choreographed by Toni Basil, best known for her number 1 hit “Mickey” and her choreography work for the absolutely fantastic Talking Heads video “Once In A Lifetime“. If that doesn’t make you want to watch it then I don’t know what will.
