Win tickets to the CDN premiere of ‘Hobo With A Shotgun’

Alliance VivaFilm is joining forces with the Fantasia Film Festival to give Hobo With A Shotgun the spectacular CDN launch it deserves, and thanks to them we are giving away 10 double passes.

On March 21st, Montreal will play host to the Canadian premiere of Jason Eisener’s epic feature debut Hobo With a Shotgun, starring the inimitable Rutger Hauer, and we’ve got ten (10!) double passes to give away! The screening, which will be hosted by Eisener along with producer Robert Cotterill, will also feature a bonus second feature: a glorious 35mm print of Ngai Kai Lam’s infamous 1991 cult flick Riki-Oh: The Story of Ricky, along with a host of vintage grindhouse/exploitation trailers. Here is a caption from our review from Sundance

“Hobo With a Shotgun delivers what it promises and will satisfy midnight movie gore-hounds. There is a blithe stream-of-self-awareness at play here, similar to what you might find in the early exploitation masterpieces. Hobo is a navel-gazing exercise in nostalgia for a bygone era when trash cinema had its own lurid pedigree and roster of auteurs. Perhaps in all it’s insanely violent glory, it will launch a new wave of Canucksploitation (the Canadian Grind-house tag from the seventies), Gratuitously smutty, sadistically violent, inventive, assured and absurdly entertaining –  a fuckin’ masterpiece”… (read the entire review)

For a chance to win, send an email over to [email protected] with the subject heading HOBO – you’ll be entered into a draw to win one of the passes.

For the uninitiated (whoever you are), Eisener is responsible for both the original faux-trailer that birthed the Hobo concept (and played as part of the Tarantino/Rodriguez two-fer Grindhouse in Canada) and for the brilliant short Treevenge, which garnered accolades from genre fests across the globe. The feature-length Hobo marks not only Eisener’s feature debut, but also the return of screen legend Hauer as a full-blown leading man. His credits include an epic run of Paul Verhoeven films (including Turkish Delight, Soldier of Orange and Flesh + Blood). his iconic turn as Roy Batty in Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner, his epically nasty John Ryder in The Hitcher, and countless others.

Hobo was shot by Montreal-based cinematographer Karim Hussain (director of such films as La Belle Bete and Subconscious Cruelty, co-writer of Nacho Cerda’s The Abandoned).Karim was also one of Fantasia’s key programmers from 1997-2001.

The screening will take place on Monday, March 21st, starting at 7:30pm, at the Cinéma Banque Scotia (977 Ste-Caherine O.). See you there!

About The Film

A train pulls into the station – it’s the end of the line. A Hobo jumps from a freight car, hoping for a fresh start in a new city. Instead, he finds himself trapped in an urban hell. This is a world where criminals rule the streets and Drake, the city’s crime boss, reigns supreme alongside his sadistic murderous sons, Slick & Ivan. Amidst the chaos, the Hobo comes across a pawn shop window displaying a second hand lawn mower. He dreams of making the city a beautiful place and starting a new life for himself. But as the brutality continues to rage around him, he notices a shotgun hanging above the lawn mower… Quickly, he realizes the only way to make a difference in this town is with that gun in his hand and two shells in its chamber.
