With Hugh Jackman’s tenure as Wolverine coming to a close, and both Deadpool and X-Men: Apocalypse planned for 2016, Deadline exclusively reported today that a new X-Men spinoff movie is in the works: The New Mutants. Josh Boone, director of the blockbuster The Fault in Our Stars, will take up directing duties. Boone will also co-write with Knate Gwaltney.

The New Mutants is based on another chain of Marvel comics from the ’80s that originally began as an X-Men spinoff. This new team of teenage mutants, also graduates from Professor X’s Academy, are a younger, more globally diverse bunch, including the heroes Cannonball, Mirage, Karma, Sunspot, and Wolfsbane.

Deadline reports that there’s no timetable just yet for The New Mutants, but that it would be expected to begin production in several years after Boone finishes his next two projects. The first of those is The Vampire Chronicles, a reboot of a film with Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt, followed by Lisey’s Story and The Stand, two adaptations of Stephen King novels.
